Installation of base insulated multi-point lightning rod:
(1)Installation: Install at the highest point of the building.
(2)Adopting a bottom-up construction process: first install centralized grounding devices, then connect down conductors, and finally install lightning arresters. The main tower with bottom flange or metal structure should have two symmetrical connections with the grounding body for the down conductor and the lightning protection main down conductor of the building
(3)The connection between the lightning rod (strip) and the down conductor should be welded.
(4)The fasteners used for the down conductor and grounding device of the lightning rod (strip) should be galvanized products. When using non galvanized anchor bolts, anti-corrosion measures (such as asphalt) should be taken
Working principle of base insulative multi-point lightning rod:
A lightning arrester (lightning rod) is a non inductive, low impedance metal conductor down conductor. In thunderstorm weather, when clouds appear above high-rise buildings, lightning rods and the top of the buildings will induce a large amount of charge. Due to the pointed tip of the lightning rod, the conductor tip always accumulates the most charge during electrostatic induction. In this way, the lightning rod accumulates most of the charge. The lightning rod forms a capacitor with these charged clouds, and due to its pointed shape, the positive electrode area of the capacitor is very small, resulting in a very small capacitance, which means it can hold very little charge. And it gathers most of the charge, so when there is a lot of charge on the cloud layer, the air between the lightning rod and the cloud layer is easily broken down into a conductor. This forms a path through the charged cloud layer, and the lightning rod is grounded. The lightning rod can guide the electric charge on the cloud layer into the ground, so that it does not pose a danger to high-rise buildings and ensures their safety. The lightning rod transmits the lightning current after receiving the lightning through the down conductor and the main lightning protection down conductor of the building to the ground, and prevents the protected antenna tower or building from side impact and electrification. In most cases, the impact of static electric field cables is less than 1/10 of the impedance of the iron tower, avoiding building or iron tower electrification and eliminating flashover.
